Cardwell RSL Wecomes the Mud Army

Cardwell RSL continues to support the Cardwell community; on Thursday a function and dinner was held at the Beachcomber Restaurant in Cardwell in recognition and appreciation of the hard-working volunteers ably led by Christine Ihle who quickly deployed after the disastrous flood on the 2nd of February this year helped and lifted the spirits of the whole community.

When a grant opportunity was offered by Clean Co a State Government organisation that runs the Hydro Electricity production at Koombooloomba Dam (Tully) and the Baron River Dam the Cardwell RSL made a successful application which paid $3,000.00 towards the dinner. The remaining $1,500.00 was donated by the Cardwell RSL Subbranch. A special thanks to Damien Clarke (from Clean Co) and his lovely wife Cherylann for their attendance, and a wonderful evening was had by all.

Edmonton RSL Club seeking more members

Navy veteran and Reservist Gordon Burgess, 36, has become one of the youngest Presidents in the history of the Edmonton RSL Sub Branch, south of Cairns. After 18 years in the Royal Australian Navy, Gordon is now focused on helping fellow veterans transition by fostering camaraderie and teamwork within the Sub Branch.

Since taking on the role in March, he has led refurbishment projects, with support from local businesses, to create a welcoming space for veterans. Membership has already grown, with younger veterans showing strong interest and involvement.

Gordon’s mission is to build a supportive hub where veterans and families feel they belong, ensuring the Sub Branch remains strong for the future. Deputy President Jeff Langham shares his enthusiasm, highlighting the revitalisation sparked by younger members.
